Geo Park receives UNESCO Award in Malaysia

Anglesey is a UNESCO global heritage site offering an added dimension to visitors. It is the only one in Wales outside the Brecon Beacons and in the whole of the UK. Following the new internationally recognised status there has been an influx of people from Germany, Austria and around the world as geological tourism takes off. There is currently a rise in geo tourism to seek out fossils, view special rock formations and fantastic island geology such as the pre-Cambrian formations at Llanddwyn and Newborough, which attracts visitors from as far away as Japan. Local geo expert Dr Margaret Wood also has plans for a special project at Llanbadrig focussing on the Celtic links with St Patrick ,the cave, the church ,the history etc with a view to establishing a centre of excellence and tourism centre.
